welcome to Arda Acres

Sharing is caring!

“It’s the job that’s never started as takes longest to finish.” – Samwise Gamgee

Sam always speaks truth. Two millennials from the Deep South’s suburbia decided to YOLO into gaining self-sovereignty and self-sufficiency on a small homestead in northwest Wyoming. It can be difficult to know when to pull the trigger on buying land, animals, and tackling absolutely foreign challenges but we agree with Sam in that sometimes you just have to start.

It’s been three months since we’ve moved to our Arda Acres and the experience earned and knowledge gained make it feel like years. So far we’ve experienced sheep, mini fainting goats, a Maremma Sheepdog puppy, chickens, and a crazy winter storm with a wind chill of -50 degrees.

We’ve already made mistakes, fixed them, and learned how to improve going forward. We have such grand goals and expectations for this new year and our first summer on the land. We balance this exuberance with the knowledge of how much work it will take to get those accomplished. Baby steps and realistic expectations help keep us sane as we tackle all these new adventures.

So welcome to Arda Acres and we hope you enjoy your stay.
