Swedish Black Hen (Svarthona) Hatching Eggs and Chicks
Why Buy From Arda Acres?
We aren’t trying to produce the most birds possible. We’re trying to preserve a remarkable landrace while selecting for calm temperaments, healthy birds, and strong black pigmentation. Every breeding decision is made with the long-term future of the Svarthöna in mind.
We were the first to locally offer these rare birds in Tennessee and Wyoming and we’re so proud to see how well loved they have become in both states. In fact, if you peruse the Tennessee NPIP registry, you’ll find that those advertising Svarthöna came from our flock.

Payment must be made in cash.
*Prices are subject to change.
Shipping & Local Pickup
We do not ship live birds. We currently do not offer shipping for hatching eggs.
For local pickup of hatching eggs, you’ll receive an egg carton to carry them home.
For local pickup of chicks, you will receive your chicks in a small box with air holes and liner for cleanliness. You are responsible for keeping your chicks at the appropriate temperature for their trip home. We don’t recommend transporting chicks more than a few hours as they are fragile.
You’ll also receive a free quick start guide to incubating eggs, brooding chicks, and introducing them to the coop and existing flock with your purchase.
We do not hold hatching eggs or live birds so you must be prepared to pick up within 72 hours of availability.
What to Expect
Once eggs leave our premises, we are not responsible for them and cannot control their care and management thus no refunds will be granted. While you may candle eggs at 7-10 days, the heat from the incubator will have already broken down the cells that form the “bullseye” to indicate fertilization. It will be impossible to know if the egg was fertilized or not.
We cannot control the conditions under which you incubate your eggs, the quality of your incubator, or unforeseen changes in mating and egg laying of our hens. If you are not comfortable with this risk, then do not purchase hatching eggs.
No refunds will be given for chicks not adhering specifically to landrace standards. As in any breeding program, culling to breed/landrace standards is a must. When selecting breeding stock, consider pigmentation. Evaluate landrace standards of each bird as they reach adulthood.
We reserve the right to cancel any order or refuse to sell to anyone for any reason for the welfare of our birds.
Your hatch rate can be 0% to 100%. If you’re not comfortable with this risk then we suggest sourcing chicks instead of eggs.
Do not buy hatching eggs or straight-run chicks if you’re not comfortable with having roosters. There is no way to guarantee how many hens and roosters you may hatch. You could have 0% to 100%, or anywhere in-between, of your chicks be roosters.
We do not guarantee a hatch rate, any ratio of roosters to hens, health once departed from our premises, or the eventual appearance of adult birds.
Availability
Availability is limited due to our flock size as we’re a small family farmstead. Typically we offer chicks in the spring based on demand, but hatching eggs are available year round.

Fainting (Myotonic) Goats
Why buy from Arda Acres?
Just like with our chickens, we’re a small homestead focused on animal welfare and happiness. We also are hands on with kids from birth so that they grow up calm and enjoying human company without needing to be a bottle baby.
Our closed herd was tested clean from Caprine Arthritic Encephalitis (CAE), Johnes, & Caseous Lymphadenitis (CL) in December 2024 by the Washington Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (WADDL).

Current Availability

Pepper (wether) born 04/05/26
Pumpkin (doe) born 04/05/26
What to Expect
Young livestock are typically available in the spring with pickup four months after birth. We allow them to wean as naturally as possible and have found that four months is a good timeframe for our kids.
You may come and visit to get to know each animal to aid in your decision process or to bond more with your choice.
Once you place a non-refundable deposit on your kid, we will send videos, pictures, and updates along those four via text message. You can opt out of this.
We do reserve the right to cancel or refuse a sale if we feel it’s in the best interest of our animals.
We don’t vaccinate, feed grain, disbud, purposefully create bottle babies, castrate early, or provide you with one animal without proof of companionship. Goats are herd animals and need buddies.
Price
Prices range depending on coat coloration, eye color, polled (naturally no horns), and sex. The total payment for all animals must be made in cash when the animal(s) are picked up.
Discounts can be given based on bulk purchases and if you visit the kid(s) prior to final pickup.
A $100 non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your kid.
Payment must be made in cash.

FAQ
Can I purchase one chicken, guinea, goat, puppy, etc.?
Yes! But you must provide proof that you already own a companion as our animals require at least one of their kind for proper health and happiness. Most of the animals we raise are herd animals.
The exception is chickens and guineas. You must buy at least two of each as a companion.
Will you deliver livestock to me?
No, we do not deliver livestock. All must be picked up.
Do you vaccinate your animals? Will you vaccinate them upon request?
No, we do not vaccinate our animals and will not do so upon request.
Do you disbud your goats? Will you disbud them upon request?
No, we do not disbud our animals as horns are their only means of protection and they help dissipate heat in the hot months to avoid heat strokes. And if need be, horns are a good way to grab an animal in a case of emergency.
Do you castrate your animals? Will you castrate them upon request?
Yes, we will wether goats for an extra fee starting around 3-4 months.
Will you provide me with a bottle baby?
No, we do not purposefully create bottle babies. It’s healthier digestively and mentally for a baby to stay with its mother and to go through natural weaning. Our kids are typically weaned by four months old.
I’ve paid my deposit but I no longer want the animal I chose. Can I get a refund?
No, unfortunately we are not able to offer refunds on deposits. If you’d like, you can roll forward your deposit to future animals.
I’ve paid for my digital product but I don’t like it. Can I get a refund?
We do not offer refunds on digital products as there is no way to return the item.
Can we visit Arda Acres?
Typically, yes, but, you cannot show up unannounced. We follow biosecurity protocols for the health of our animals. Please reach out to us at Jamie@ardaacres.com to schedule a time to visit our homestead.
